🌿 Exploring the Trails of Simbithi Eco Estate

Welcome to our first monthly story in the Ballito Stays Coastal Accommodation series—this month, we're inviting you on a journey through the stunning trails of Simbithi Eco Estate, just a short drive from your stay.

Beautiful trails through Simbithi Eco Estate showing lush coastal forest and natural pathways

Why Simbithi's Trails Are a Nature Lover's Dream

Nestled along KwaZulu Natal's North Coast between Ballito and Salt Rock, Simbithi spans roughly 430 hectares of coastal forest, wetlands, grasslands, and rolling hills. With over 15 km of trails designed for walking, mountain biking, and horse riding, it's an outdoors playground boasting five distinct routes that showcase the estate's rich biodiversity and serene beauty.

Meet the Trails 🥾

Each trail offers a unique experience, clearly marked with coloured wayfinding for your convenience:

Mannies Farm Trail: A scenic loop through coastal forests and open grassland, ideal for birding and gentle hikes.
Nsimbi Trail: Leads you past tranquil estate dams and wetlands, popular for spotting aquatic birds and wildlife.
Mfuleni Trail: The longest and most central, weaving through multiple ecosystems and linking key community centres.
Mngeni Trail: Shorter and more intimate, offering peaceful wetland forest views and high birdlife diversity in a quieter setting.
Tamboti Trail: Begins and ends at the Fish Eagle Community Centre, featuring sweeping grassland and occasional sea views over southern sections of the estate.

Duration: Trail durations range from just under an hour to longer exploratory loops—many visitors finish in about 0.5–1 hour over approximately 2 km with modest elevation changes.

Trail Tips for Visitors

Where to Start

A good access point is via the Country Club entrance, where residents and guests often begin their walk towards the eco side trail network.

Best Times

Early morning or late afternoon for pleasant light and more active wildlife.

What to Bring

Comfortable shoes, water, and your bird watching binoculars (a camera is highly recommended too!).

Happy trails,

The Ballito Stays Coastal Accommodation Team
